FiKus. No, not tree, the five piece rock/dance band from New Jersey!
If your in the mood to get your “funk/rock/dance groove” on then this band will fit your taste. Originating from all over bergen county, FiKus is full of energy and can really get a crowds attention.
Their sound is different from most of the bands I have seen and their performance level leaves an unforgettable memory. They incorporate an array of instruments from drums, guitars, keyboard, horns, a six string bass, with a lead singer who also does some percussion. They call their genre, funkadelic hard rock, which fits their style perfectly.
I have been to Tommy Fox’s before, but walking in during this bands set, the place seemed like a totally different atmosphere. FiKus takes old school tunes, and puts their own spin on it, connecting old generations of music with new. During the first set FiKus broke out in to some MJ (Michael Jackson) covers. Then they played the sickest rendition of Tina Turners, Proud Mary that I have ever heard.
FiKus is comprised of Steve – Guitar / Vocals, Travis – Bass / Vocals, Jon – Keyboards / Vocals, Pete – Percussion / Vocals, and Kito – Drums. During they bands first set break, I got to have a quick chat with a few of the members. One of FIKus’ favorite venues to play in NJ are Mexicali Blues and the Stone Pony. They enjoy playing covers but strive to make it big with their original tunes. One of their favorite original tunes to play is called Puddin’ – no G – just Puddin’. FiKus future goals are to “keep playing music and keep spreading the word.” You can check this band out every Thursday at Tommy Fox’s in Bergenfield. I suggest you tell your friends and get there early!
